State Farm Makes Commitment to Teen Driver Challenge

State Farm's Michael Hidalgo Grimes ceremonially presents a check to FSA President Sumter County Sheriff Bill Farmer.

Michael Hidalgo Grimes, public affairs specialist with State Farm Insurance, dropped by the Florida Sheriffs Association annual summer conference to present a check for $30,000. The donation was given in support of the FSA's Teen Driver Challenge (TDC).

The TDC recently caught the notice of State Farm insurance, which resulted in a $30,000 grant to help expand the program.

"We think the Teen Driver Challenge is a great program because it provides both classroom and 'behind the wheel' instruction," Grimes said.

State Farm has a long-standing commitment to making roads safer, and their grant helps support that mission.

"Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of American teens, and we wanted to support an organization like Teen Driver Challenge to help change risky teen driving behaviors and save lives," he said.

Because one of State Farm's goals is to reduce injury and death from teen crashes, he said that the partnership between State Farm and the TDC will help provide leadership and advocacy around this national tragedy caused by high crash and fatality rates of teen drivers.
