Florida Sheriffs Institute Graduates First Commanders Academy
TALLAHASSEE, FL, November 8, 2013....The Florida Sheriffs Association announces the graduation of the Charter Class of the Florida Sheriffs Institute Commanders Academy on November 8, 2013 in Tallahassee.
Focusing on law enforcement leadership, management skills, and issues specific to the unique Office of the Sheriff, this 64 hour course was developed to prepare mid-level managers for future command responsibilities. Included in the curriculum were sessions dedicated to budgeting and finance, emergency preparedness, discipline and labor relations, jail management, and working with both traditional and social media.
“Florida’s Sheriff’s offices are unique law enforcement organizations. To ensure world class customer service for the communities we serve, the Florida Sheriffs developed this cutting edge Commanders Academy which prepares current supervisors and future agency leaders to successfully operate in our rapidly changing world,” said Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County, the President of the Florida Sheriffs Association. “I’m proud of the FSA for anticipating the needs of Florida’s sheriffs and developing this course of study which can serve as a model for the nation.”
Thirty command level personnel representing 21 agencies graduated from this class which was held at the Florida Public Safety Institute of Tallahassee Community College. The graduates are:
