Florida Sheriffs Association Presents Legislative Champion Award to Senator Jack Latvala
Tallahassee, Fla. (July 29, 2014) – Each year, the Florida Sheriffs Association recognizes state legislators who have made significant contributions to criminal justice and public safety through their leadership. During the 2014 legislative session, there were a number of key legislators who the sheriffs counted on to ensure a successful session. The Florida Sheriffs Association presented Senator Latvala (R-20) with the Legislator of the Year award this week during the FSA 2014 Summer Conference in St Johns County.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said, “Senator Latvala demonstrates an unconditional commitment to the sheriffs, which has made him an effective advocate and allows FSA to rely on him to make the right decisions that will keep Floridians safe. I am proud to have worked with the senator this session.”
Senator Latvala has an open door policy, and his support of the Florida Retirement System and law enforcement make Senator Latvala an ideal advocate for nearly every issue important to sheriffs.
"I am honored to receive the Legislator of the Year Award from the Florida Sheriffs Association,” said Senator Latvala. “As a legislator, I believe it is important to work with law enforcement officials not only in my district, but throughout the State of Florida to keep our citizens safe. In Pinellas County, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, a number of Police Chiefs and other elected officials on legislation that remains in the best interest of our community and the state, and will continue to do so."
The Florida Sheriffs Association has identified Florida legislators who gave critical support to Florida’s Sheriffs for bills we supported, as well as who worked through bills of concern and helped us to defeat those bills that were just were not good for Florida.
